The BACK BAY SAXOPHONE QUARTET is a dynamic group dedicated to advancing chamber music of the 21st century. From landmark compositions of centuries past, to the most recent works of this new century, their concerts are stimulating, entertaining, and unpredictable. The group formed in 2001 while its members studied at Boston's two conservatories. They made their home in Boston's 'Back Bay' area, pounding the pavement with their energetic performances. Audiences were lured by the invigorating sounds of the group's popular and jazz genre, and as the group's focus pivoted toward more innovative programming listeners became even more engaged.

With a vivid repertoire, balanced between notable pioneers as well as visionaries of tomorrow, BBSQ maintains a steady appetite for today's most demanding saxophone quartet literature. Their dedication to bringing audiences the most significant music of our time has ignited the 2008-2009 season's centerpiece, Elliot Carter's "Canonic Suite," in celebration of the distinguished composer's 100th birthday year. BBSQ has weaved together works ranging from György Ligeti to Leonard Bernstein, proving that great music can begin at any moment in time and continue long after the premiere has faded. BBSQ is available for concerts, master classes, residencies, and workshops. Join them this exciting season and discover why they are one of the premiere chamber ensembles of its kind!
